Covid-19 Pandemisinin Hava Yolu Taşımacılığı Sektöründe Kurumsal Sürdürebilirlik Başarısı Üzerindeki Etkisi: THY Örneği

Ulaşım Sektörü yaygın iş gücü göz önüne alındığında Türkiye için önemli bir sektördür. 2020-2021 yıllarında tüm dünyayı etkisi altına alan COVID-19 pandemisi Türkiye’yi de etkilemiştir. COVID-19 pandemisi sürecinden birçok kurumsal firma etkilendiği gibi ulaşım sektörü de oldukça fazla etkilenmiştir. Pandeminin şirketlerin kurumsal sürdürülebilirlik performansını da etkilemesi yadsınamaz bir gerçektir. Bu çalışmada Türkiye’nin hava ulaşımındaki bayrak şirketi Türk Hava Yolları (THY)’nın 2014-2021 periyodundaki kurumsal sürdürülebilirlik performansı analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada COVID-19 pandemisinin havayolu şirketlerinin kurumsal sürdürülebilirlik başarıları üzerindeki etkisinin araştırılması amaçlanmaktadır. Pandemi sürecinde THY’nin ulaşım sektöründe ne kadar etkilendiğini değerlendirilmektedir. Bu aşamada şirketlerin finansal performansını karla değerlendirilmesi anlayışından uzaklaşılması, şirketlerin karşı karşıya kaldığı çevresel, sosyal ve finansal sürdürebilirliğini doğrudan etkilemektedir. Bu kapsamda çevresel, sosyal ve finansal indikatörler performans değerleme kriterleri olarak ele alınmıştır. Bu süreçte Entropi yöntemi, ağırlıklandırma yöntemi olarak kullanılmıştır. Alternatiflerini 2014-2021 yılları arasındaki 8 yıl oluşturmuştur. Bu çalışmada 8 yıllık çevresel, sosyal ve finansal sürdürülebilirlik performansları büyükten küçüğe doğru sıralanmıştır. Bu çalışma sonucunda elde edilen bulguların, COVID-19 pandemi döneminde THY’nin kurumsal sürdürülebilirlik açısından nasıl etkilendiğini görmek isteyen yöneticiler, yatırımcılar ve paydaşlara yardımcı nitelikte bilgiler sunabileceği öngörülmektedir.

The Impact of The Covid-19 Pandemic on Corporate Sustainability Success in The Air Transportation Sector: The Example of TA

The Transportation Sector is an essential sector for Turkey considering its widespread workforce. The COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the entire world in 2020-2021, also affected Turkey. As many corporate companies have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic process, the transportation sector has also been affected quite a lot. It is an undeniable fact that the pandemic also affects the institutional sustainability performance of companies. In this study, the institutional sustainability performance of Turkish Airlines (TA), a domestic corporation company in Turkey's air transportation, in the period of 2014-2021 was analyzed. The aim of the study is to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the institutional sustainability achievements of airline companies. It is evaluated how much Turkish Airlines has been affected by the pandemic process in the transportation sector. At this stage, moving away from the understanding of evaluating the financial performance of companies with profit directly affects the environmental, social, and financial sustainability of companies. Within this scope, environmental, social, and financial indicators are considered as performance evaluation criteria. In this process, the Entropy method was used as a weighting method. The alternatives were formed in the 8 years between the years 2014-2021. In this study, the 8-year environmental, social, and financial sustainability performances were ranked from large to small. It is anticipated that the findings obtained as a result of this study will provide helpful information to managers, investors, and stakeholders who want to see how Turkish Airlines has been affected in terms of corporate sustainability during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
